Review of guidelines for young adult females: Acne vulgaris is a multi-factorial follicular disorder affecting sebaceous glands on the face, neck, and upper trunk. Acne can be classified as inflammatory and noninflammatory lesions. It is the most common dermatoses affecting teenagers and young adults, which usually decreases by age 25. It is estimated that acne affects more than 17 million Americans and 10 percent of all patient encounters are with primary care providers. Patients canexperience psychological morbidity and rarely, mortality due to suicide due to acne. Clinicians are charged with the task of treating young individuals with a variety of psychosocial issues related to acne. Determining the causative factor and initiating a comprehensive treatment plan is important to avoid scarring and poor patient outcomes. This presentation will provide clinicians with informational resources to treat acne vulgaris in patients with skin of color.
